When closed, it covers numerous small drawers and compartments. Below, the piece takes on the form of a two drawer chest. This style was prominent during the reign of Louis XV

Criaerd 18th Century French Louis XV Black and Gold Lacquer Chinoiserie Commode, the original serpentine marble top above two long drawers decorated with polychrome landscapes in aventurine surrounds, all raised on cabriole legs with chased ormolu chutes, handles and sabots. The commode bears the stamp of Mathieu Criaerd, maitre Parisian ébéniste (c. 1689 – 1787) whose works can be found at Versailles, the Louvre and other royal collections
